Was excited to see Clucky (https://twitter.com/Clucky92864053/status/1479830705744011267) turn up some more stuff on this HLA thing.

Have also read the sections in the immunology books I am reading re: HLA and MHC genesis. Very interesting and yet also an indictment for the path we have taken re: vaccines etc.

I cannot read the table, however I do know darker skin is less effective at generating Vit D from sunlight exposure. This is my first line of defense when confronted by "muh racism" explanations for why darker skinned cohorts suffered more from covid.

and by read I mean understand.

The MHC (HLA) haplotypes and the surface proteins they express are deeply involved in non-self recognition, T-help and clonal expansion, and are not created equal for handling any kind of pathogen. Indeed, any given cohort of people has tolerated self in such ways that certain T-cell receptor lineages have been deleted in development. Pathogens can exploit these blindspots and when they can, we see outbreaks. The immune systems we have express the successes of the last several evolutionary culling wars with pathogens. That some humans on different ancestral continents in different ecological niches have been painted into immunological corners, while others are equipped to immediately handle certain pathogens without much incident, is not a controversial statement to anybody who knows something about #tradscience. If we swapped the word "humans" above with "bats" virtually zero human heartburn would ensue.

The basic rank differences between AAs and Asians in America in the table (that is pretty unhelpful to be sure) should stand out.

Also, for all my "Vit D Gang Bros," please consider that while D sits at the top of basically every immune function (why Evolution, WHY?), and is commonly deficient in olds, we know that intracellular viral surveillance is inducible by retinoic acid (Vit. A related), and these gene products are fully expressed in kids and decay with age at a rate estimated to be the inverse to the Rona CFR plotted on increasing age. Something to consider.

I can read that table now, btw.

I looked just now to see if lead author of the Sept study is doing any follow-up but could not find any.

Do you think they will do a follow up study? It would be very interesting to see if their initial results were replicated / extended.

Having read Ch 1 a few times now, and Ch2 and bits and pieces of the rest of Roitt, reading your comment here is a vastly different experience.

I am enamored with the high level concepts I have picked up - particularly the DC and its maturation. The system is amazing, and I don't even understand it all that well.

My guess is I am going to need some basic level genomic understanding also, even if it's keywords. Do you have a book suggestion for that topic?

If you have the time / patience, I would love to read an explanation of the table, the rank difference significance and (I can see the relation to the top image) how it hangs together.

Do we have any similar info on the Marburg virus which appears to be originating in Africa?

I tried, honestly, to understand the table even with your suggestion. I can see the differences in ranks but I am way out of my depth.

Something most politicians are unable to say, so I at least have something going for me!

Have you looked at Marburg at all? Just killed its first victim (in Africa) and am curious if there are similar issues there, given Bill G's videos in the past discussing the population growth there...

Micheal Levitt finally found out about HLA genotypes...

Twitter won't let me use their website without supplying a mobile # - which I refuse to do - so I can't reply to his tweet.
